so, today i read a thing where this girl said she was “proud to be chubby,” and this super body positive, fat-acceptance blog scolded her on it, saying that she should call herself what she is—fat—-and not avoid the word.
seriously, fuck you. some people aren’t ready to reclaim “fat.” that word still carries a lot of weight, no pun intended, and a lot of negative emotions. maybe she doesn’t identify as fat and prefers chubby. that is her goddamn choice.
some people can strongly say “i am fat.” some people can’t. for some people that word brings a lot of shame and negative feelings that they are trying to work through by using “chubby” or “fluffy” or “plus-sized” or “thick” or “more to love.” and that’s okay.
maybe i’m being dramatic, but telling someone to completely unload the word and use a word that they might not be comfortable with using is almost as bad as imposing standards of what bodies should be. it’s her body. she can call it what she wants and what she identifies with and what she feels comfortable with.
back the fuck up.
